I've been into motorsports my adult life, and have yet to complete a singe autocross, let alone a track day. The possibility/impossibility of actually getting a chance to turn a lap on this. One of my tracks is a public road, with a strict speed limit.

1.) If I were every to get the chance to go wheel to wheel or do endurance racing, I would want it to be on Mt. Panorama circuit. I like the fact that it's built like the demon cross between Monza and the Nurburgring. Also, I like the fact that every race I've ever watched on it has been close, with the track's two sections emphasizing different point and shoot/ momentum cars in different measure.

2.) For the US, I think my choice would be Road America . To me, it's the real place US F1 should be, but isn't fancy enough, safe enough (I think F1 tracks err too much on the side of safety, something Sir Jacky Stewart happens to agree with me on) or close to any swanky urban areas. Too Fast, not enough Chicanes, just seems right to me. This is a local choice for me, growing up in Chicago.

3.) Because of my time in Japan, there are three tracks that I want to go to, (and actually are doable because they'll be within 1.5 hours of my new home). Fuji Speedway , Tsukuba Speedway , and Sodagura Forest . Fuji because that straight, into turn one is epic. Tsukuba because it is an internationally recognized yardstick of both driver and car. (If you do a sub 1:00 lap, your hot stuff). Sudagura because it's new, relatively cheap (Y10,000 per year, Y10,000 per track day), don't allow drifting, and really convenient to get to from my new home (<1 hour).

4.) For Europe, there are three for me. Spa , Nurburgring , and Brands Hatch . The first two are self explanatory. But why Brands over Silverstone? I think brands is more organic, and It seems like it would be more interesting to drive. I think it's a better venue for the UK F1 GP. Why not Monza ? The place seems to have a bad vibe, and creeps me out. I like the high speed, but it seems that I'd be more scared then enthralled going around it.

I also wanna turn a lap at Indianapolis , even if it's just on the bus that gives tours there.

Places I'd avoid...

Europe: Any Tilke track especially New Nurburgring , and Red Bull Ring

Asia: Twin Ring Motegi ..... Seems Boring.

USA: Big Willow . To me just seems to samey. Streets of Willow and Horse Thief Mile seems fun though.

The Nurburgring Sudschleife wasn t designed by Tilke

I once had the opportunity to lap the "extended Nürburging", i.e. the Nordschleife + half of the Südschleife. It's very different, with lots of endless turns, but I wouldn't call it bad.

Plus, the new 2014 'ring cards will offer you the possibility to trade 1 lap of the Nordschleife against 15 minutes on the Südschleife. My guess is that will make the southern loop a much more popular track.

Your right, I misread ther article about it. He designed part of the access road, not the track itself. The south loop, doesn't have the flowing nature I'm interested in.

Road America is widely thought to be the best circuit in America. I'd love to turn some laps there. I'd also like to hit up Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta. I'd also want to do Sebring, but in someone else's car with someone else's suspension.

How are they doing laps on the 'Sud? Is it point-to-point?

I thought the Sudschleife was abandoned, has it been reopened now then?

Brands would be a terrible F1 venue these days as they'd have to destroy everything that's good about it to get it up to F1 standard, like when they tried to move it to Donington.

It's a pretty great track. I wouldn't necessarily say it's more "organic" than Silverstone, it's just got a hell of a lot more natural elevation changes to play with.

We might not be talking about the same track. What I was thinking of is the GP track, which appears to have replaced the Südschleife.
